Prev Next

The doors of Merrion square which is the largest of Dublin's Georgian Squares. There are no numbers 32,33,and 34. The National maternity hospital is between 31 and 35 but the enterance is on Hollis Street. The door to number 44 is no longer used, it was the old British embassy that was burnt out after Bloody Sunday in 1971. The middle of the square was owned by the catholic church who wanted to build a cathaderal on the site, but was instead leased to Dublin Corporation to be developed as a park. Today it is known as Archbishop Ryan Park. There is a statue of Oscar Wilde across from where he used to live in number 1. The National gallery of Ireland and the back gate to Leinster House can also be found on the Square.
